Canada's role in Afghanistan has largely changed since we first began our mission. We are at crossroads of continuing to be more involved in combat based missions or peace/rebuilding missions. Regardless, a comprehensive debate needs to be called. This Conservative government wants to hide behind the slogan of supporting the troops to continue with more intense fighting. He is making it seem that if you're anti-war, then you are against the troops. This is completely wrong. Canada needs to determine what it's full role in Afghanistan will be. Other NATO countries may need to begin to takeover some of the missions we have been doing. This idea of the Canadians and the Americans having to do the hard work while the other NATO countries do restructuring missions is unacceptable. We need to face the facts; the Afghan mission needs to be revised and debated so we can head toward a more safer Afghanistan and Canada.
